Leupold Katmai 10X32Mm Compact Binocular Black 56430 Review

Leupold Katmai 10X32Mm Compact Binocular Black 56430
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first set of mid-range compact binoculars, settling on this brand after reading many reviews on the web. Having just received them, I haven't given them a serious field test yet; but my initial impression is that they appear very well built. They focus well but the knob is a bit tight, have eyepiece adjustment for eyeglasses wearers and the image quality is excellent to my amateur birdwatcher's eyes. That they're rubberized, nitrogen filled and waterproof are all pluses.
The box also includes a comfortable neck strap, lens caps, small microfiber cleaning cloth; and a soft case with belt loop. Unfortunately the case was designed too small for these binoculars and is essentially useless - disappointing considering the price of these optics.

Leupold Katmai binoculars deliver full-size performance in a compact body you can take anywhere, making them ideal for bird watching, sightseeing, and a host of other applications. Unlike most compact binoculars--which employ small objective lenses and eyepieces--the Katmai binoculars feature full-size eyepieces and large 32mm objective lenses, which let in a ton of light to improve the brightness of the image. The prisms are also phase and L-coated via an exclusive 64-layer process, thereby dramatically enhancing the image resolution. And thanks to the generous eye relief and twist-up eyecups, you'll be able to look through the binoculars for long periods without suffering from discomfort, even when wearing eyeglasses.
Best of all, Katmai binoculars are incredibly comfortable to hold, with a body that's small enough to fit in a cargo pocket yet powerful enough to function as your full-time optics. Other features include a multi-coated lens system that ensures maximum brightness for clarity, contrast, and color fidelity; a close focus distance of only 4.9 feet; and a rugged waterproof housing. The Katmai binocular carries a limited lifetime warranty.

Adorama 4 x 30 Hamlet Opera Glass Binocular, Platinum with Silver Trim Review

Adorama 4 x 30 Hamlet Opera Glass Binocular, Platinum with Silver Trim
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I took my new Adorama 4 X 30 Hamlet Opera Glass Binoculars, Platinum with Silver Trim to see the Los Angeles Opera perform La Traviata recently. I could have rented glasses from the vendors there, but it was much nicer to have my own, not have to stand in line before or after the opera, and they were wonderful help in seeing the actual expessions on the soloists' faces from where I was sitting in the nosebleed section. Since I'm getting near-sighted in my old age, they were also vital to reading the superscript over the proscenium so I could figure out what on earth was going on. I'm a bit of a cultural boob, and just now, upon retirement, beginning to get into opera, so these are a big help. The last time I went to the opera, I couldn't see the faces of the divas. Of course, I suppose I could buy better seats...My only complaint about these glasses is that they are a bit heavy to keep holding up for a long time. But the pleasure of just using something so beautiful and getting such a great view far outweighed (no pun intended) the slight effort required to hold them up. The opera was OK, but I think I got more pleasure from just owning my new opera glasses. They would make a wonderful gift to a theater- or opera-goer. Believe me, I hinted enough times, but my kids didn't get it. Anyway, I'm now armed and ready for Wagner's Ring Cycle next year!

Leica 18723 D-Lux 5 Leather Case Review

Leica 18723 D-Lux 5 Leather Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this Leather Case for the D-Lux 5, but decided to return it as found it not functional for using the D-Lux 5.
The design of the case fits very tight the camera, therefore you need a strap to pull it out, and the case has no strap for the camera included (D-Lux 4 case from Leica had it). The problem is that you can not either use the original strap that comes with the D-Lux 5, as the camera will not fit inside the case. Therefore is a very good looking case, but is not functional due to the missing strap for the camera.

Olympus Magellan 10x42 EXPWP Binocular Review

Olympus Magellan 10x42 EXPWP Binocular
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I tried shopping for a birding/nature viewing binocular with excellent quality with reasonable price, this one and also the Olympus EXWP I 8x42 are both the best deal I could find.
Briefly speaking, there are 5 factors I emphasize on binoculars: 1. power (7-10x); 2. aperture (40mm and above); 3. prism quality (Bak-4 with MULTI-coating, don't be fooled by those "fully coating" lower quality ones, only consider "phase corrected" and "multi coating"!); 4. waterproof/fogproof (most binoculars in this category use nitrogen filled hermetically sealed); 5. with rubber armored and roof prism style.
You can find those perfectly fitting on some Zeiss and Leica binoculars, with price [price]. They are really better than this Olympus, but bet you don't want to spend such amount on a pair of binoculars. Then there were 3 great deal falling in my category: Pentax DCF WP 8x42, Minolta Activa WP 8x42, and this Olympus model. Compared to the other two models, this one is the latest introduced (early 2001) with the latest technology (with UV coating which the other two don't have). The lower price is due to the brand equity of Olympus, which is considered not such a high price brand than Pentax and Minolta in camera world.

The nitrogen filled Olympus Magellan 10 x 42 EXPWP binoculars give you a waterproof and fogproof performance, perfect for use under extreme conditions. Their ergonomic, yet rugged, design has a nonslip covering that lets you grip them comfortably for extended periods of observation. The long 19mm eye relief gives you ease of use if you're wearing glasses, while the built-in dioptric correction adjusts to your individual eyesight.
A large center focus knob gives you fast, easy focusing--even while wearing gloves--making these binoculars ideal for outdoors events like camping, bird-watching, and hiking. The Bak4 Porro prisms ensure that you get crisp, edge-to-edge images no matter what you're observing, while the phase and UV coated optics give you maximum image brightness and contrast.
