I have a Ruger #3 single shot in 22 Hornet that puts a regular rifle scope, even with extention rings, too far forward to get a full view image of the scope. What I did is buy two Weaver style extention rings (the Ruger #3, unlike the Ruger #1, uses Weaver bases for the scope mount), and mount them forward facing instead of backward facing as they were designed to be used. Then I put this Simmons scope as forward as the backward mounted extention rings would allow, and voila! -- I now have a scout rifle. Wonderful sight picture, and the 22 Hornet does not tax the scope very much because of gentle recoil. As an aside, I also have a Ruger #3 in 30-40 Krag with the 4X version of this scope, mounted the same way, and have some truly nasty 220 grain loads (because of the strong action), and the Simmons 4X scope still holds together.
